Welcome to Walsingham Academy Upper School's Art Blog

Our Honors classes are working on an "installation" project for our oh so boring stairwell. Our acrylic paintings are 36" x 36", non-objective, and based on the circle and circular shapes. We have two students working on each canvas, so it is a collaborative endeavor.

We will post more recent pictures as we make progress.

For this painting my partner and I had no verbal communication because we worked on it at separate times. Instead, we spoke to each other through the canvas itself. Anything newly added by one was balanced out by the other. When a checker pattern was placed in one corner it was placed again in the other. We went in blind, which added a new level of excitement that made this project even more fun than usual.

Finishing this piece was very fun with spiral lines and the little dots. We figured that the white would be a great top layer and if we placed a light yellow over the white it would almost make you look twice to see which was which. The circle was add in the top middle almost to be focus point and to bring your attention in. The pink dots add a very good top layer too. Having such light colors on top of the dark really brought out the definition of the shapes and other colors.

The clock really attracts your eye. We included several small details to give a different effect. The organic shapes across the painting create an unusual movement. We made sure we included many obscure sizes of circles throughout our painting. It turned out nicely.
The last view days Eddie and I worked on our painting, we really focused on the little details, which seemed to make the painting become more alive. The confetti pieces in the center and the ballon off to the side give a festive party feeling.
